Many websites and blogs suggested that a forwarding ticket isn't needed nor checked for very often. This may have been true in the past, but when I flew from Frankfurt in early January2010, I was stopped and checked three different times for a forwarding ticket. If you are flying to Costa Rica on a on a one way ticket you need be aware that you will need proof of an outbound or onward ticket in order to enter the country. Currently airlines are being more stringent and denying passengers from boarding their flights who do not meet Costa Rica's entry requirements,

You will have documented proof of outbound passage and the bus company enters your information into the Costa Rica's immigration data base in which your airlines and the local customs have access.
